Using another computer mapping model, David produced a county wide map that can identify potential sites for large, medium and small-scale waste-to-energy plants. The model makes sure that potential sites are: Located on industrial areas. Close to areas which produce the require amount of waste. Away from protected natural areas (such as Sites of Special Scientific Interest) Near to a suitable grid connection Close to main roads (to avoid congestion). These models can give our councils a good start in identifying the best possible sites for waste-to-energy plants to help them successfully move through the planning system. This approach can also help assess the suitability of existing and proposed sites. An output model map showing potential sites for Warwickshire is shown here. |
