 The picture left shows the Lerwick, Shetland community WtE plant. It processes 26,000 tonnes per year of local waste to produce 7 Megawatts of hot steam for the local district heating network. This network connects 110 houses, a swimming pool, 2 schools, a fish factory, a hospital and much more! This plant demonstrates the excellent use of heat.
The picture right shows the Isle of Wight WtE plant. It processes 30,000 tonnes per year of the island's household waste. It is currently however, being replaced by gasification technology which will generate 2 Megawatts of electricity for the local grid.
